I had such good intentions to personally make a lot of handmade gifts this year–silk scarves to paint, blankets to knit, felted pencil cases to make…As it always seems to happen, time ran out and I just managed to help my kids make a couple gifts to give: a handmade felted ipad case for dad and a handmade knit scarf for a dear “aunty”–an unrelated, but dear friend to our family.
For the ipad case, I thought that wet felting would be easiest. With kids–especially my kids, wet felting in aluminum pans (to contain the potential mess) was a must. I helped lay out the wool, but let them decorate as they wanted with prefelt and yarn pieces.
As a note…If I were to do another handmade felted ipad case (hopefully for me) I would use the “no seam” method like a group of us moms did on our wet felted pillows. Since both of my children wanted to contribute their own piece of felt for the ipad case however, I sewed the two pieces together to incorporate them into the case.
So I guess those other handmade gifts by me will have to wait for now…until the next special birthday or holiday. There’s nothing like a handmade gift–made with love…
