In tying up the year, I wanted to show a few of the gifts handmade at our Waldorf school by our children for Christmas.  They are simple, beautiful, and lovingly made.  A small cord basket made by my son for my husband’s spare change.  A hand sculpted and fired elephant from my daughter to set by our herbs on the windowsill.  A hand dipped beeswax candle…We love to light candles at dinnertime around here.

The presents were wrapped in paper decorated with leaf rubbings or tied with colorful wool yarn.  The wonderful handmade cards were so endearing.

I am so grateful to the teachers for helping our children make these beautiful treasures, but even more, I am so happy that the children were learning about and focused on giving.  Making things from their  hearts to give to others…

It reminds me of how Jean Miller, a homeschooling Mom from Waldorf-inspired Learning wrote about how some Waldorf homeschoolers also make giving the sole lesson in December.

It’s the new year and our children started back at their Waldorf School today.  My daughter in the 5th grade is thrilled (and I do mean thrilled) to start her studies of the Greek gods.   My son’s third grade class has happily started working in the garden again.  Our school rhythm has begun…
