A continuation of my son’s story…

It seems like a blur now, but my poor newborn son couldn’t sleep for more than 20-30 minutes at a time during the day. The only thing that seemed to soothe him was to be in a sling with his body pressing against mine. I carried him around in that sling for at least a year–vacuuming, hanging laundry, cooking, playing with my 21 month year old daughter.

My son’s years as a toddler were blissfully uneventful. I can only guess that all of his energy and focus was on learning to maneuver his body and learn to communicate with all of us. He seemed to smile so much during that time…

Then he became 4 years old in the preschool/Kindergarten at our school. Although admittedly there were many external factors that contributed, my son couldn’t sit still. He seemed especially hardest to settle during naptime after lunch…At the time I was doing what I thought was best by feeding him lots of whole grains–mainly wheat, and protein–mainly eggs and dairy yogurt. After trips to countless doctors, I realized that I was feeding him totally the wrong things. Once I stopped feeding him wheat and dairy, it was truly as if a miracle happened. My son calmed down and was given the “most improved” award at his Kindergarten graduation!

After my last post about the “Journey to Heal My Son’s Gut”, I heard from many other Moms who were on similar journeys and who had such wisdom to share. I hope you get a chance to read their comments and my heartfelt thanks to those moms for their stories. We all learn so much from each other…

One Mom wrote that she had an aggressive antibiotic regimen right before birth (similar to mine) that resulted in very scary acid reflux trauma with her daughter. Many doctors and nurses told her that she was “over” worrying as a new mother. She knew better though and proved them wrong.

Other Moms wrote stories about intuitively knowing that their children had gut issues and how they were now trying to heal them.

And yet another Mom got me hooked into a group of Moms called “The Thinking Moms Revolution”. Wow!

Talk about strong women trusting their instincts about their children! The stories and battles these women have fought on behalf of their children are nothing short of miraculous. Hook into their website and you will be inspired and strengthened by their examples.

Another groundbreaking book to share is written by Dr. Kenneth Bock called “Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies: The Groundbreaking Program for the 4-A Disorders”. I just finished reading the book and would highly recommend it. Dr. Bock groups all of these “4-A Disorders” (autism, ADHD, asthma and allergies) together because he and other progressive doctors are finding that an integrated approach using nutritional therapy, supplementation therapy, detoxification, and medication therapy is successfully treating ALL of these “epidemics” that are affecting more and more children.

Perhaps the Mom story that touched me the most however was from a woman who felt alone in her battle to heal her children. She had just thrown yet another batch of homemade yogurt down the drain and was rightfully discouraged. I heard from her later though and she wrote how she had picked herself up and was getting valuable information online and was connecting with knowledgeable people at her local health food store. What an inspirational Mom!

So take heart fellow Warrior Moms…We have much to learn from each other and much that we can do to support each other. We are not alone…
